What You Think Is What You Create!

What You Think Is What You Create!

We know that all the thoughts we have create energy and they are sent out to the universe in a vibrational pattern. Neuroscientists estimate that we have in excess of 60,000 thoughts a day. Our brains generate a tremendous amount of activity, and we need to be more aware of how this exercising of mental capacity is affecting our lives.

I found, in working with clients, that a lot of the thoughts created were the same as the day before or the week before or the month or year(s) before. They became repetitive patterns of thinking that dictated the quality of life for the client. And unfortunately, most of the thinking was absolutely negative…which is why they came to see me.

Henry Ford was quoted as saying, “If you say you can or you can’t, you are right either way.” Coach Lou Holtz said, “If you put negative thoughts into your mind, you’re going to get negative results. It’s just as true that if you put positive thoughts in your mind, you will be a recipient of positive results.” Norman Vincent Peale wrote that, “Our happiness depends on the habit of mind we cultivate.” Winston Churchill believed, “The positive thinker sees the invisible, feels the intangible, and achieves the impossible.”

It’s all about the power of positive thinking, but it’s more than that too. There has to be a direct connection between what you think and how you feel. If you’re thinking a positive thought, but your body is feeling a negative emotion, then there is dissonance between the two…a disconnected neuron somewhere in your subconscious brain that keeps getting in the way. This is usually related to a particular belief system you have about the possibility (even the right) of having a positive experience in life.

The good news is that you can always change how you think. Change your thinking and you can change your life. For some, this is not even an accepted belief within the realm of possibility. The is where the actual work comes into play. To change a bad habit of negative thinking, you must cultivate a good habit of practicing positive thinking using affirmations that are meaningful to you. You must create the intention of changing how you think and start catching yourself when you do have negative thoughts. Immediately cancel or delete the thoughts and replace them with something positive.

It is helpful, of course, to have written affirmations handy so that you can start to train your mind to think more positively. I recommend you have at least 2-3 on your person at all times. You can write it on a post-it note or carry it in your phone, whatever is most convenient for you. You may find, at first, that it is difficult to catch every negative thought, but once you set the intention and reinforce it every day, you will begin to get better at the practice.

I begin each day with a period of meditation and end with the affirmation given below. During my meditation, I use a sequence of chakra realignment that clears any negative energy from my body and mind, which also leaves me feeling completely centered, grounded, and ready for the day. I recommend you check out the 10 Minute Transformation meditation by Suzanne Giesemann at www.suzannegiesemann.com/gifts. It’s free and it will give you a sense of peace, which is a great way to start every day.

The daily affirmation is very useful in reprogramming your mind to get rid of the negative neural pathways and create new ones. The plasticity of our brains allows us to do this no matter what our age or experience in life. To begin, try repeating the affirmation below and see what you feel. Where do you encounter negative thoughts or resistance to what is being said. It will show you where you have work to do. To make it easier, I suggest you record your own voice reading the affirmations. It will be less distracting than trying to read and meditate at the same time. Besides, it’s your voice, so of course you will listen more attentively! Give it at least 21 days to build a new habit and your life will never be the same!
